Rochdale face a potential goalkeeping crisis for the FA Cup tie with Tamworth on Saturday with the news that Mathew Gilks is currently the only fit keeper on their books.
Marcus Hahnemann's loan period has just expired though he wouldn't have been available for an FA cup tie in any case, Neil Edwards is still struggling to overcome a knee injury and third choice John Baker has suffered a calf strain that will keep him out of action for at least two weeks.
This means that Dale won't have a regular keeper on the bench for Saturday's tie with Dave Flitcroft and Michael Oliver fighting it out for the dubious honour of going in goal should some mishap fall young Gilks.
In the meantime Dale caretaker manager David Hamilton is trying to extend the big American's stay at Spotland for at least another month.
"I have spoken to Marcus and he has told me that he wants to stay with us,"
"I will be contacting Jean Tigana to discuss the possibility of Marcus coming back for another month.”
Hahnemann himself is looking for more first team action away from Craven Cottage in order to boost his chances of making the American World Cup squad.
"I'm hoping that maybe I can go somewhere else - and now I've played some games on loan at Rochdale, hopefully people will notice and there'll be some interest in me. “
"Before that no-one even knew who I was and whether I could handle games. I think I've showed that I can. I played seven games and got five clean sheets. So hopefully something will come of it."
