After several days of speculation the club have revealed that combative midfielder Dave Flitcroft has decide to remain at Spotland, turning down the chance of a permanent move to Shrewsbury after the Shropshire club had a bid for the player accepted last week.
A delighted David Hamilton told the official club website this afternoon that he was able to
“confirm that David Flitcroft has decided to stay with the club. We had a long conversation on Sunday and he told me the club had something going, to which I agreed. He was disappointed he didn't play on Saturday, but I told him I cannot guarantee him a place in the starting line-up.”
” I told him I view him as an out-and-out central midfield player, and although he can cover on the right, I was as being at his strongest in the centre of the park.”
"David is an integral part of this club, and with him having 18 months of his contract still to run, I told him I didn't want to lose him. He is an excellent character to have around the club, and somebody this club cannot afford to lose.”
After losing one player last week it is a relief to all concerned that the first team squad is not going to be weakened even further by the departure of Flitcroft.
