Hill backs down on ref claims

Last updated : 27 October 2010

Rochdale boss Keith Hill has apologised to referee Craig Pawson for his outburst at the way he handled the recent 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers. Hill was unhappy at the decision to award Rovers a penalty in first-half injury time of their game on October 16 as well as disagreeing with a host of other decisions made by Pawson. And after the game he said: "The FA and the Referees Association ask us to respect officials but I can't respect them when they give substandard performances. I can't accept the referee's display. His decisions rather favoured Bristol Rovers throughout the game." But Hill has now offered an apology to Pawson for the accusation he favoured Rovers. "I categorically state that at no time in my comments was I implying that Mr Pawson deliberately made any judgment against us or in favour of Bristol Rovers," a statement read on the club`s official website. "I was absolutely not implying bias in any way, shape or form. It was never my intention to personally criticise Mr Pawson and I apologise unreservedly if he felt offended by my comment."
