Ahead of the visit of Keith Hill's table-topping side to Gigg Lane on Monday, Bury have lost just two of their last 19 League Two matches.
Knill said: "We are going about our business quietly and we have sneaked up the table, but the hardest part is keeping it going.
"They beat us 3-0 earlier in the season but I don't think the scoreline reflected the match that day.
"It was a wake-up call for us and defeat did hurt but that was a long time ago and I'm sure both teams will feel they have improved."
