Rochdale centre back Marcus Holness has targeted back to back promotions as the club chase a League One play-off place. The 22-year-old is part of a Dale side who are unbeaten in 2011 and lie in eighth in the league, just two points off the play-off spots.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I don't think promotion is beyond our reach, we're heading for the play-offs as it is and we're just doing what we can.

"We'll just keep winning games and see what happens."

The centre back's outstanding form has been subject of much praise this season and he was rewarded with a contract extension until the summer of 2013 last month.

Holness believes players leaving have been the key to handing him opportunities adding: "With the departure of Nathan Stanton I've been given my chances and just grabbed them.

"I've worked a lot in training this year, worked on my bad points, and I'm putting in good performances."

Holness began his career with Oldham Athletic but moved to Rochdale, initially on loan, in October 2007 before signing a permanent deal in January 2008.
